Prayer - Does it make any difference in healing?

Let me start by saying that I am an atheist. I do not believe in any form of Supernatural Power or Super Power being. So my article here would be largely biased towards the absurdity of the act of trying to heal by prayer.

Now that that's out of the way, let us try to find out if it is even possible to effect healing process by prayer. Prayer by definition is an attemp to communicate with Supernatural being for any reason. Be it to request gifts, to ward off evil or to heal ailments. For the purpose of this article, let us assume that the Supernatural being is God and that He in fact exist. (It is hard for me to assume and stretch it this far, but for the sake of the argument, I am doing it)

So my question is will God still be God if the act or the request of his creation effect his decision. Is that not the fundemental trait of human beings. When people ask, we feel like giving., When people beg, we symphatize. When people mock us, we get angry. Its what human are. Influencable. So, if we can influence God by asking, begging, threatening (in short praying), what is so Supernatural of God? Or is this what some theist say that God made us in his image? That just like he can be influenced by his creation's demand, we too can influence each other. Err, but then, Did he knew prior to him creating us, that one day his creation would be able to influence him? Sort of like the chicken and egg trivia eh? Which came frist? God, his image or us? Did God create us in his image or Did we create God in our image? Can we really influence God's decision. If so, are we more powerful than God?

Another thing is, ever wonder why we often pray to God to make happen things that has a posibility of happening only. Like cancer patient asking God to make her pain sufferable, or like a student praying to God to make him pass the test. Why, nobody asked God to give back the limb he lost. Or that the tumor in his brain to go away? If healing by prayer is possible, shouldn't a kid who lost his leg pray and grow his leg back? So, do our sub-concious mind knows something and hiding it from us? Let us take a moment and think. With brain. Not just Faith.

What Do You Say. Prayer Heals?

It is a huge topic, I believe in God, only proof I see in my daily life is when you do good things sponteaneously, good things seems to happen from various places. If you try doing bad things, bad things occur randomly and more. There is some divine force behind we don't know all the answers, but I am sure there is, this world couldn't have been created random. There is an order of things, like the seasons, the rotation of the earth etc., Even if you don't believe in God, keep doing good things. Cheers.

First of all, thanks for the nice comments. And please be assured that I really appreciate your stand on Faith and Supernatural existence. We are different, but I appreciate you.

However, I would like to disagree strongly with you that good things happens only (or randomly after)one does good deed. Or vice versa. If so, you would not have to hear about children dying of hunger, malnutrition, HIV and what not! Are they not too young to have committed wrong doings of any degree to be forced to face fate as heinous?

And, just like you are seeing the orderly, beautiful part of this universe and see God's hand working, I am seeing all the natural disasters, the tsunami, the hurricane, the flood and am convinced this is only a lifeless, random universe which reacts according to how human being treats it.

Having said all this, let us not sway too far away from the topic, Why do you think nobody asked God to grow his/her amputated limbs? It would be an easy task for an all powerful God, yes?
